Goodsoup Family Diamond
From Monkey Island wiki
The Goodsoup Family Diamond is a large diamond that belongs to the Goodsoup family, an old family who runs a chain of restaurants and resorts across the globe. The diamond appeared on an engagement ring that had been passed down from mother to daughter in the Goodsoup Family until Minerva Stroneheim-Goodsoup, a young debutante on Blood Island, had the diamond stolen from her by the pirate LeChuck.
LeChuck stole the diamond and sold it to the cutthroat smuggler King Andre on Skull Island in exchange for a new ship which would take him to Monkey Island, in a race against Captain Marley for the legendary treasure of Big Whoop. The diamond remains on Skull Island as the centrepiece of Andre's vast treasure collection, and Minnie Goodsoup dies a week after LeChuck's disappearance from Blood Island, taking the engagement band to her grave. The Goodsoup Restaurant Empire fell into collapse and left Griswold Goodsoup the last of the Goodsoups, with the Goodsoup Plantation Resort Hotel and Casino as the last, delapidated remains of the Goodsoup family empire.
The diamond ring became legendary according to the Voodoo Lady and Blood Island's location was lost due to the removal of the shipping lanes, enhancing its mystique.
Appearances in Game
In The Curse of Monkey Island Guybrush Threepwood arrives on Blood Island seeking the diamond ring to cure his cursed fiancée Governor Elaine Marley. After fooling Griswold into believing he was a relative of the Goodsoups, Guybrush was buried alive in the Goodsoup Family Crypt and able to reconcile the mourning ghost of Minnie Goodsoup, gaining the engagement band.
To obtain the diamond itself from King Andre Guybrush must join him in a game of poker, where he is always dealt the same weak hand. Guybrush can instead offer five identical death tarot cards, a poker hand not even Andre and Cruff can beat with a normal deck. After connecting the diamond and the band back together, he is able to cure Elaine of the inflicted evil curse. The diamond ring becomes a replacement for the cursed diamond ring as an engagement ring to Elaine from Guybrush.
By the time of Tales of Monkey Island, Elaine had started wearing the ring as an earring. Later she gives it to the one-handed Guybrush in "The Siege of Spinner Cay" as a replacement for his lost wedding ring.
