Effete LaFoot is the bungling assistant and replacement at the winch atop Skull Island. Despite his short stature and lack of physical strength he is ordered to operate the lift to Smuggler's Cave. When Guybrush tries to reach the cave LaFoot's grip slips and Guybrush will fall to the ocean, unless he acts quickly and uses the umbrella as a parachute.
Despite his inability to perform his job, LaFoot ends up saving Guybrush's life. As King Andre and Cruff are about to kill Guybrush LaFoot bursts through the door, accidentally blowing out the lights. If the player failed at least once to get to the cave, before his departure, Guybrush will return to the top of the island and throw LaFoot off before leaving the island forever.
