Mort about to bury Guybrush.

Mort the Gravedigger is the grave-digger of Blood Island.

He first appears (sighing with relief) when Guybrush pulls the pin out of one of the paper Voodoo Dolls at the Voodoo Lady's house. He isn't introduced properly however until Guybrush feigns his own death. He burries Guybrush in the crypt where he is reunited with Stan. He later reburies him in the Goodsoup Family Crypt, when Guybrush convinces Griswold Goodsoup that he is related to him. With the help of Murray, Guybrush is later able to scare Mort into freeing him from the crypt.

Mort is a huge fan of cheezy horror-fiction which is the probable reason why he is severely behind on his burials. His home is full of cheezy horror fiction and posters advertising them, as well as other things relating to them:

Pirates Must Die.

The Grog that Drank People is a work-in-progress horror novel that Mort is writing. It's one in a three part series which causes Guybrush to wonder why all trashy media comes in threes. When Guybrush tries to sell him some fine leather jackets, he claims to be a vegan who hates the exploitation of animals. This puzzles Guybrush since he has stuffed animal heads on his wall, but Mort says only one of them is real (the only out of place one being a human head). He also has a dog, Old Blind Pew, who lives in a coffin. His name may be a play on the Latin word mortis and from there various other words meaning either dead or death in other languages (mort in French; muerte in Spanish).

He is voiced by Roger Behr.
