Noogie appears in Tales of Monkey Island as a member of the Democratically United Brotherhood of the Manatee Interior. He is a member of Coronado De Cava's original expedition crew, but was never trusted with any major duty; De Cava's file trunk describes him as "not much use". Guybrush Threepwood wins his vote into the group by fixing him up on a date with Morgan LeFlay. However, he turns on Guybrush along with the others when the latter returns the manatee's cochlea to De Cava. Noogie and the others are then apprehended by Morgan and tied to the mast of the Screaming Narwhal.

Noogie gives in to Guybrush and reveals the location of the Tongue of the Manatee. Later, when Guybrush asks Bugeye where Noogie is during the ship fight for La Esponja Grande, Bugeye responds that "Noogie had a hard time readjusting to crew-life" and "wasn't ready to give up on Democracy," and that he "founded his own political party" and "went to a quiet farm upstate" (typically recognised as a lie used by adults to avoid reporting the death of a pet). In "Rise of the Pirate God" his grave is found next to Santino's cenotaph, reading:

Noogie liked bongos and wooing the ladies.
He turned on his brothers who sent him to Hades.

This implies that Bugeye and Moose are Noogie's murderers.

Personality

Noogie is overweight, nervous, and nearsighted. He has a crush on Morgan LeFlay, and refuses to give Guybrush his vote into the Brotherhood until he has a nice date with her. Noogie spends the majority of his time playing the "bongos," which are really two bile sacs in the giant manatee's stomach. He has a deep fear of Sister Agnes, a nun who scared him as a child.

Etymology

A "noogie" is a prank in which the middle knuckles of the fore and middle fingers are rubbed vigorously against the surface of the skull. A noogie is also called a "Monkey Scrub."

Trivia

  • In the PS3 version of "Lair of the Leviathan", Guybrush can get Noogie and the other members to join him in a unanimous vote in order to earn a "There Is a Brotherhood of Jerks" silver trophy in the "PlayStation Network Trophy Achievements"; and later on he can repeatedly play on Noogie's bongos prior to using the flopping fish on them to earn a "Bongo Baby, Yeah" bronze trophy. In "Rise of the Pirate God", Guybrush can read Noogie's gravestone along with Santino's cenotaph and all the other gravestones (including his own) in the Crossroads Gateway to earn the player a "Grave Ribber" bronze trophy.
