The Sea Monkey

The Sea Monkey is the ship originally used by Herman Toothrot and his buddy to try to discover the fabled Secret of Monkey Island. While on Monkey Island, Herman's buddy accidentally hangs himself, forcing Herman to train a group of monkeys to sail back to Mêlée Island to get help. These monkeys allegedly sell the ship to Stan, though he doesn't explicitly state whether the story is true or not.
Guybrush Threepwood ends up buying the ship in order to go after LeChuck and rescue Governor Elaine Marley. The whole of Part II in The Secret of Monkey Island is spent on the ship. Both Herman and Guybrush use a voodoo recipe that Herman bought on Mêlée (thinking it was a map) that magically brings the ship to Monkey Island.
While on Monkey Island the player has the option of sinking the Sea Monkey. If Guybrush does not, his crew will come ashore after they run out of sunscreen and return with Guybrush to Mêlée; if he does, they will be stranded on Monkey Island and Guybrush will return with Herman's secret ship instead. Events in the fourth game reveal that the second instance was chosen as canon.
The Name
The name comes from an American pet-product for young children which is intended to train them in taking care of a pet before they are allowed to have, for instance, a goldfish.
